Careers and Graduate Schools

The International Relations major prepares you for a number of possible careers. Graduates who have majored in IR are pursuing careers in both the public and private sectors both in this country and abroad, in such areas as defense planning and research, international law, international banking; international trade, policy planning, international business and international education. They work in agencies such as the state department and the defense department, for international government organizations such as the World Bank and the United Nations, and for a number of non-governmental international organizations. They serve as consultants, transportation planners, policy analysts, currency traders, international lenders, researchers, international lawyers, stock analysts, business advisors, marketing representatives, and sales persons in firms doing business international business; journalists, lobbyists for both non-profits and private businesses, and college professors and teachers who specialize in international education.
